AIMHO Senior Housing Officer Institute Welcome
Share |

The SHO Institute is an exciting pre-conference opportunity for both aspiring and current Senior Housing Officers within the AIMHO region.  The SHO Institute will provide opportunities for participants to further their professional development in a supportive environment that encourages both networking and skill enhancement.

The content focuses on critical issues that are faced by Senior Housing Officers on all campuses, and the structure provides for both large-group presentations by several outstanding faculty members, and informal small group discussions.  Participants will return to their home campuses with tangible resources and enhanced connections with other professionals from across the region.

So how do I register for the SHO Institute?

When you complete your on-line registration for the AIMHO Conference, you will find a check box at the top of the document that you need to select.  No selection process will be utilized and no approval is needed as long as you are Senior Housing Officer or an aspiring Senior Housing Officer.

Are some of the meals included as part of the SHO Institute Registration Cost?   Yes, most of the meals are covered by the Institute, starting with dinner on Friday night through Breakfast on Sunday morning.  Breakfast on Saturday morning and lunch on Sunday are not covered.  All other meals are included and snacks will be available for all sessions.

Here is what past Senior Housing Officer Institute participants had to say about their experience:

Aaron Like, MSU Billings

I currently serve as the Assistant Director for Housing at MSU Billings and I am not considered the SHO.  I work at a small school and advancement with the department is something that can happen very fast.  I decided that I wanted to attend the SHO Institute to further my knowledge of what SHOs go through as well as build connections with aspiring and current SHOs within the AIMHO region.  I benefited the most from Matt Brown’s presentation on Legal Issues and how a SHO has to constantly be thinking and up-to-date on all the latest legal policies, procedures, and laws.  Within that, I also benefited from the connections I built with other SHOs during the institute.  It was truly a great experience and something that I am very thankful that I attended.

Alicia Monrroy, UNLV

I gained a lot of great information and words of wisdom on how to prepare myself for future SHO positions and what types of scenarios to expect in the future. Hearing various stories from current SHOs was very impactful and made me less hesitant about making future position moves.
