The AIMHO Diversity and Social Justice Committee is committed to celebrating culture and advocating for inclusion. The committee works to enhance the region by providing useful and relevant information pertaining to Social Justice Education. As a whole the committee supports the region by helping to create opportunities for dialogue, providing safe spaces, and honoring the identities present. Below are the individuals that serve on the committee. Please do not hesitate to reach out to any of us. We are here to support you and your institution in any way we can.

Affinity Group: Women in Leadership

I value the differences in how we identify because it allows us to have the most fruitful and productive work environment for our coworkers, students, and ourselves. I continuously want to learn how and strive to create a culture that allows all people to ‘bring themselves into work’. No matter how one identifies, it is important that their ideas are received and considered, to contribute to the success of our organization.

Mary Elliot

Colorado School of Mines

Affinity Groups: Women in Leadership

My journey in the self-work of becoming an advocate and an ally has been life-long, and my journey has come at the emotional expense of people who cared enough about me to teach me. My goal in working for Social Justice is to create spaces where we truly see one another and honor who we are the people we came from and those who helped create us along the way. As someone with a great deal of privilege, it is my responsibility to speak up, stand up, and own my own and others oppressiveness and work against it each day.

I believe that Diversity and Social Justice are more than just competencies but ways in which to engage institutional barriers that impact our students and ourselves in transformational ways and create liberatory practices and conversations that we can use to progress our society forward in positive and sustainable ways.
