On any given day in housing we are a plumber when a sink backs up in the hall, a carpenter when a chair breaks in the lounge, an electrician, a recruitment specialist, an academic advisor, a counselor, a teacher, a mentor, a leader, a follower, and a friend. The one thing is for is that a day in housing and residential life is anything but average. And for what reason do we do this work? Most certainly not for pay and most certainly not for recognition and fame. From the undergraduate student who has yet to learn the true meaning of what students affairs is, to the seasoned professionals who have lived and breathed this for years…We come together to do what we do in an effort to make lives of others better. The smile, the thank you, the warm embrace after a long hard day, the student who graduates with great success…that is why we do what we do. The reality is that everyone in AIMHO can and should be recognized for the impact that you make. So on behalf of the awards and recognition committee we say thank you for going the extra mile, staying the extra hour, and having the extra conversations that make the difference in the lives around you.
