It’s AIMHO Conference Time!- By Jennifer Hiatt, New Mexico State University

On behalf of the entire executive board and committees, I would like to personally invite you to join us in Jackson Hole, Wyoming for our 51st Annual Conference.  An excited group of professionals from Idaho State University, Sheridan College, Western Wyoming Community College and University of Wyoming are welcoming us to “Reaching New Heights Together”.  During November 6-9, 2005, we will collaborate, network, learn and grow together.  I hope you will join us.

AIMHO continues to move forward as an organization.  We set out this year to welcome, embrace and celebrate our new professionals.  Through a couple key initiatives you may have heard about, we are working to meet higher expectations and hope to keep more people interested in working in the field of housing and residence life.  Our new summer RA Exchange provided students with the opportunity to travel to a new school and enjoy the summer learning.  So far, we have had very positive feedback regarding the new exchange.

Our corporate sponsors continue to help our organization grow.  We will be faced with a new challenge in the coming year to balance our budget.  Typically, this sends shivers through the spines of people.  They are instantly called to a notion that we do not have enough money to fund our valued programs.  AIMHO is faced with the challenge of making sure we maintain our non-profit status by funding our valued programs and not allowing a large reserve to remain in our bank account.  We hope you will actively participate in this lively discussion of what is important to our organization.

AIMHO is a strong and vibrant organization because of our members.  I hope you will consider becoming more actively involved by either running for an executive position or volunteering for one of our committees.  Please email me if you would like further information at president@aimho.org

I hope your fall is off to a good start.  I love to feeling of crisp autumn air and students full of promise for their futures.  This time of year always reminds me why I chose this profession to make myself a life.

Thanks and I hope to see you in Jackson Hole,

Jennifer Hiatt
