Help keep AIMHO strong – Volunteer! - By Whitney Milligan, Utah State University
Each year as the annual conference approaches there is much talk among members of the Executive Committee about the need for volunteers to step up to the plate and sign-up to serve on a committee, as a mentor for new professionals at the conference, or even be nominated to fill one of the executive positions that are up for election this year. Volunteerism is the heart and soul of our fine, professional organization and for many, it is the heart and soul of their connection to the profession. You may not realize it now, but once you become involved in sharing your skills, perspectives and commitment to further develop AIMHO, you inevitably become more connected to the value of the organization and of volunteerism itself.
Whether you attend the conference or not, you can actively participate in your own professional development and in the development of AIMHO. We need committee chairs and committee members for Awards and Recognition, Programming, Diversity, AIMHO College, Research and Information, and Marketing. There is an important involvement opportunity through the Mentor Matter’s program. We will also be voting at the business meeting at the annual conference in November to select a new Entry-level Member at Large, as well as President Elect.
It’s time to step up and volunteer your time, expertise and heart and soul for the sake of AIMHO, the profession and for your own personal satisfaction and development. Think about it and then act on it. You can make a difference.
