AIMHO College provides an opportunity for new professionals within the region to improve functional skills, gain self-awareness, network, and gain a greater understanding of the University Housing Profession in an informal environment designed to foster connections among participants and nationally/regionally acclaimed faculty members.
How is the AIMHO College related to the AIMHO conference?
AIMHO College is designed as a day-and-a-half pre-conference institute. The $55 fee includes all meals and materials during the College. (Lodging is separate). Applicants to the College will also register for and attend the annual conference. AIMHO College participants will enjoy the Conference with established contacts and active encouragement to participate in conference activities. Applications for AIMHO College 2005 are due September 30, 2005. AIMHO Scholarship funds have also been designated for the College. Our Mission
AIMHO College is designed to be an intensive learning experience for entry-level professionals and graduate students. Created by a team of top faculty members, the AIMHO College will combine presentation, hands-on learning, case study, and group experiences for participants to gain a broader appreciation for various issues in housing and student services.
Who can attend the College?
AIMHO College is designed to be relevant for individuals with less than three years of post-baccalaureate housing/residence life experience. This opportunity is also open to graduate students. Individuals will be grouped together according to their education and experience levels; each group will then be matched with a faculty mentor.
2005 AIMHO College Faculty
Deb Coffin is the Executive Director of Housing and Dining Services at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Creating and delivering quality residential and dining experiences has long been a professional passion of Deb's. Deb has had the privilege of working with and serving students over the past 23 years in multiple capacities ranging from residence hall student leader, dining employee, to past director at the University of Northern Colorado and the University of Wyoming. Deb has been involved in AIMHO since 1989, serving on the Diversity Committee (multiple years), Executive Board, Awards/Recognition Committee past President of the Association and frequent program presenter. Deb also facilitated the development of the current strategic plan for the organization. Deb is a returning faculty member for the AIMHO College. Deb holds Bachelors Degrees in Public Health Administration and Biology from the University of Northern Colorado, and a Master of Arts in Human Communication Theory also from UNC.
Harry Le Grande is the Associate Vice Chancellor in Undergraduate Affairs for Residential and Student Service Programs at the University of California at Berkeley. Professionally, he has served as President of the Association of College and University Housing Officers-International (ACUHO-I) and as a member of its Research and Education Foundation. He is an active member of several professional associations including the National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA) and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA). Harry has a Bachelor's Degree in Social Ecology with emphasis in Mental Health from the University of California at Irvine and a Master of Education with emphasis in College Student Services Administration from Oregon State University.
David McKelfresh is currently serving on a joint-appointment at Colorado State University as Director of Employee Development and Assessment with the Office of Housing and Dining Services and as an Assistant Professor in the Student Affairs in Higher Education Masters Program. David was a faculty member at the 2002 National Housing Training Institute, the 2003 ACUHO-I Stars College, and most recently at the 2003 and 2004 AIMHO College. David received his Masters degree at Colorado State University and his Ph.D. at the University of Northern Colorado.
Whitney Milligan has spent her professional career at Utah State University working in the Residence Life program. During her tenure at USU she has worked as Residence Director, Summer Lodging Coordinator, Area Coordinator for Family and Graduate Student Housing, RHA Advisor and is currently the Assistant Director for Housing and Dining Services overseeing the Residence Life program. Whitney has been actively involved the AIMHO region for the past 12 years serving on the Diversity, Program, Awards and Recognition and Executive Committees in addition to spearheading the efforts to develop the AIMHO History display. Whitney is immediate Past President of AIMHO. Whitney has a B.A.s in Sociology, B.A.s in Social Work, and M.S.S. in Management and Human Resources, all from Utah State.
Brian Shimamoto is the Assistant Director for Multicultural Education & Advocacy for Residence Life at the University of Arizona. He oversees Residence Life's elMundo Diversity Initiatives and coordinates the SafeZONE Program at UA. He has spent most of his higher education career focusing on diversity and multicultural education and while completing intensive hate crime & bias incident training, he had the opportunity to work closely with faculty from the Anti-Defamation League, the National Center for Hate Crime Prevention, the Center for the Prevention of Hate Violence, and the Southern Poverty Law Center. Brian is a 1999 graduate of the Social Justice Training Institute and has served as the chair of the AIMHO Diversity Committee. He received his Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Delaware and Master's degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Colorado - Boulder.
As the 2004-05 AIMHO Sage, Ginny Racette will join the faculty as our "guide on the side." Ginny is the Director of Housing and Student Life at Sheridan College.
